A few years ago, nobody would have foreseen some of the technology used today on golf courses. Some of these include golf GPS rangefinders. There are two main types. The laser rangefinder and the GPS rangefinder. They are remarkably accurate at judging the distance.
How Golf Rangefinders Work
The laser rangefinder works by emitting a light and reflecting it back from the surface of the item that you want to find the distance. By using the time it takes for the light to get back to the rangefinder, it can accurately measure the distance.
Some golf rangefinders can tell the inclination or slope using the angle by which you are viewing. In-built technology is able to calculate this slope and provide you with an accurate reading.
Certain models of GPS range finders also have pin seeker technology. This allows you to concentrate on a single object while ignoring the rest of the background. This results in a more precise reading.
To use the golf rangefinder, you will have to focus on the target yourself. This explains why rangefinders come with up to 5x magnification. This is an incredibly versatile tool which allows you to accurately judge how far an object is. All that is required is the light bouncing back to the range finder.
The main drawback of golf laser rangefinders is that you have to see the object to be able to pinpoint to it and therefore get a reading. They are also more expensive sometimes up to double the price of the golf GPS device.
How Do Golf GPS Devices Work?
Global Positioning System or GPS works by using satellites to give you a reading about your position on a map. The GPS device gets the signals as per the position from the network of satellites. While earlier models were accurate within 100 meters, today’s versions are highly accurate and will give you the exact location of the ball.
To improve on such accuracy the golf GPS will communicate with up to 4 satellites. This information is calculated to give you an exact reading. All this in a compact easy to carry package and makes the best golf watch reviews possible.
Compared to rangefinders, golf GPS devices are not quite as versatile. They only provide you with a reading on your actual position. This means that you only get to work with the maps which the manufacturer installed into the device.
